Subject: Surmani family history

Hi. I'm attaching the Surmani family registration. This time I'm including notes at the bottom of the page. It is written in the Ladino handwriting called Solitreo. The first one says: "Eliahu died in 1923" and the next one says: "Eliahu died in 1931".

22 Jack Surmani's Archives:

During the 1980's, my sister Melinda Surmani Hawkes began collecting family genealogy and compiled many sources. When I became interested at the beginning of the 1990's I put much of the genealogical tree on computer software and printed out a number of reports. I created binders of photos for the four children and kept my mothers historical artifacts. Other interviews with my mother Nancy Surmani and other relatives led to further research. Following a lead in the Jews of Rhodes book by Mark Angel, I contacted a University in Israel which was noticed by a Sefardic scholar Yizchak Kerem who found a copy of my great grandfather's translation of Shir Hashrim into Ladino.

Subsequent to this my brother Andrew took my father on two trips to Rhodes and Israel where he discovered a diary of our uncle Moishe Surmani and had it translated.

This website is the latest endeavor into collating the family genealogy.
